Programs and applications, games, and tests for learning road signs online.

Programy i aplikacje, gry oraz testy do nauki znaków drogowych online.

Currently, smartphone apps are the main option. If you are looking for a test with a large number of road signs, Android or Apple devices are the way to go. Only simple games with a limited number of signs are available in browsers. Their simplicity is an advantage when you are just starting to learn road signs. Although the lack of more complex games available in browsers is rather puzzling, given the popularity of memory-style board games featuring road signs, this is certainly a niche to be explored in the future.

There are, of course, driving licence tests available in the browser, the same as those on the WORD theory test, but they are not typical quizzes for memorising road signs.

Of course, simply memorizing road signs by rote should not be the basis of learning. The most important thing is the ability to make the right decision in a specific situation, taking into account the road layout, traffic lights, horizontal and vertical road signs, as well as other vehicles and pedestrians on the road. However, spending some time on the typical memorization of signs is sometimes very worthwhile.

Table of contents

General Information on Learning Road Signs.

The key is to make a list of the signs you have trouble with. STOP signs or signs warning of dangerous bends are obvious, and generally people do not forget them.

Additionally, not all signs are relevant during the driving test.

Some road signs are “typically informational” signs (tourist information signs). . Some signs from the main category “Information Signs” inform us about the legal status of the road (e.g. a priority road), and these need to be known. However, road signs informing us about a post office, a tire repair shop, etc. do not affect traffic rules or safety.

Road Sign Learning Tests, Short Version

To begin with, it is worth starting with YouTube videos made in the form of a quiz: first, a question is asked, then we have a few seconds to think, and finally the correct answer appears. Of course, you can always pause the video. .

In this case, it is not a typical memorization test; the questions concern what can be done in a specific situation. Unlike driving licence tests, all the questions focus on road signs.

You mustn’t forget about the standard driving licence tests either; you can easily find them.

Tests on road signs are also available here, but they are paid; the cheapest package costs PLN 79 and provides access to everything for 21 days.

Road Signs Test Memorizer

To start with, the memorizer mentioned earlier. On this platform, we have access to many courses, and after logging in, we can create our own quizzes on any topic.

For example, another test—in this case, it is simply character recognition.

Additionally, we have a learning mode in which we see the result immediately after selecting an answer; hints are also available. Another advantage is the flashcard mode. It is admittedly not very intuitive the first time, but it is also useful.

Wordwall Learning Road Signs

Another website that allows anyone to create any kind of test, so it is not limited to traffic sign tests. We are also not 100% certain that these tests are correct. Its main advantage is the more interesting mini-games; in addition to the quiz, there are various ways to arrange the signs to choose from. The downside of having more options is that some configurations do not work, and only text appears instead of images.

edu PL Signs

The advantage of this page is its division into different types of characters. Unfortunately, each type contains only a limited number of characters, so it does not cover all the relevant characters on a driving licence.

Bicycle card

An amateur memory game. Instead of text, there are voice recordings. I’m adding it here as a curiosity, as it’s a charming retro game coded with love.

List of signs

This page does not contain a road signs test, only a list (as well as tests from the theory exam). But it is still useful; it is more convenient to browse than Wikipedia.

Apps for Learning Road Signs

Road Signs – Poland (from the Shoyo studio)

A solid app containing many road signs in its database.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vokrab.roadsignstest.pl&hl=pl

Lots of ads (3 ads for a single test with around a dozen questions); the buttons for moving to the next question are too low on some phones, but otherwise it works and is useful.

If we make a mistake, we receive a hint.

Board Games

There are also traditional board games. Most often in the form of memory games, an interesting option is also a game in which each card has exactly one element in common with every other card. Unfortunately, the number of symbols in them is limited, and they most often have 40 basic symbols.

YouTube Videos as an Aid in Learning Road Signs

Videos can serve as a quick test. They are especially useful at the beginning of learning, when counting points is less important.

Car Driving Game

On the Unity Play website, there is a game in which you can learn the basics of road traffic in a 3D game involving driving a car. The game is fairly simple and has 15 maneuvers. There is a bug with the traffic lights, and you have to figure out a workaround to get through it. Apart from that, it was designed around English road signs. Nevertheless, it is still quite useful.

Summary: There are no good games featuring road signs on the internet. There are smartphone apps.

When I started writing this text, I thought I would have no problem finding such tests online. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

In the free version, only very simple, limited games are available. The most comprehensive version can potentially be found on prawko.pl, but unfortunately it is paid (along with the quiz, we get extended access to online tests, exams, and courses.

The situation is better on smartphones, as Android and Apple systems provide access to applications that support a large number of characters.

Certainly, such tests are not necessary, and the topic of road sign quizzes is covered by the regular theoretical questions on the WORD exam. Although simple games, such as memory games, could be a sensible learning aid during breaks, at a time that is not considered typical studying.
